NAHB wants stimulus talks to resume

10/12/2020

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) is urging the White House and Congress to return to discussions and find a solution to the next stimulus package.

In a statement issued by the NABH, the organization said that “both sides must resume talks immediately.”

“The White House and congressional Republican and Democratic leaders need to put politics and posturing aside and think about the American people,” NAHB Chairman Chuck Fowke said. “It’s time for all sides to get back to the negotiating table and to quickly hammer out a coronavirus stimulus package that will provide economic relief to American homeowners, renters, and small businesses.”

President Trump previously announced that he was calling off talks with Democrats until after the November election. But the White House pivoted on Oct. 9 with Trump announcing, via Twitter, that, “Covid Relief Negotiations are moving on. Go Big!”

Hanging in the balance is a second $1,200 stimulus payment for American workers.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has made a $1.8 trillion offer to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. But Pelosi is pushing a $2.2 trillion package.

Mnuchin’s most recent offer is an increase from the White House’s previous offer of $1.6 trillion.

Senate Republicans have vowed to back the President’s version of the stimulus package.
