Mead Lumber named 'ProDealer of the Year'
NEWARK, N.J. – HBSDealer, the building products and home improvement retailing magazine of EnsembleIQ, selected Columbus, Neb.-based Mead Lumber as the 2019 ProDealer of the Year.
The annual award, chosen by editors of HBSDealer in concert with the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association, is designed to recognize a high-performance company with a commitment to best practices and the best values of the lumber and building material industry.
Mead Lumber is an employee-owned Midwestern leader in residential and commercial building materials since 1910. Today, the company’s 44 locations in eight states represent a tremendous variety of services and offerings. Its banners include Knecht Home Center, Black Hills Truss & Components, Farm & Ranch Building Supply and – the newest addition to the family – H.L. Munn Lumber of Ames, Iowa.

With its diverse holdings, its variety of markets and its wide ranging product mix, there aren’t many companies in the industry that do more things well than Mead Lumber.

A major event for the century-old pro dealer was the 2000 acquisition of Knecht Home Centers, a move that was orchestrated by former chief Bob Mead, and which doubled the size of the company. Another milestone was the 2014 transition to a 100% employee-owned company.
“On behalf of our 900 employee owners, we are very thankful for the honor and recognition for our company,” said President Craig Bradshaw. “We didn’t expect it, but we appreciate it.”

Mead Lumber will accept the award during the 2019 ProDealer Industry Summit, sponsored by the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association and HBSDealer. The event will be held at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo., Oct. 8-10.
