84 Lumber expands its female-ownership bona fides
The 84 Lumber Company, headquartered in Eighty Four, Pennsylvania, has been designated a Female Business Enterprise by the Cleveland Mayor’s Office of Equal Opportunity.
The designation makes 84 Lumber, wholly owned by Maggie Hardy Magerko, eligible to be a supplier for government-funded projects within the limits of the city of Cleveland.
“I’m pleased to have received this designation from the city of Cleveland,” said Hardy Magerko. “Our certification as a women owned business has proven to be a critical and strategic business growth initiative.”
In 2010, 84 Lumber underwent a thorough certification process by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC,) the largest third-party certifier of businesses owned, controlled, and operated by women in the United States. WBENC, a national non-profit, partners with 14 Regional Partner Organizations to provide its world class standard of certification to women-owned businesses throughout the country.
The WBENC certification makes 84 Lumber Company eligible for Supplier Diversity Programs administered by private companies, and provides the basis for government certifications such as the one issued by the City of Cleveland.
84 Lumber holds the following certifications as a women owned business in the states of Colorado; Delaware; New Jersey; Tennessee; Vermont; Virginia; Wisconsin.
Other localities that recognize the lumber company in a similar fashion are Osceola County, Florida; Louisville and Jefferson County, Kentucky; Detroit, Michigan; Erie County, Nassau County and Suffolk County, New York; Cleveland and Toledo, Ohio; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; South Central Texas Regional; North Central Texas Regional; and the California Public Utilities Commission.
