HD breaks with Eco Building Products

2/20/2018

According to an SEC filing, The Home Depot is cancelling its orders of Eco Building Products, a manufacturer of treated wood products, including the Eco Red Shield.

The filing from Eco Building Products – a “termination of a material definitive agreement” – explained that Home Depot will continue to sell remaining inventory in stores, but will cancel purchase orders as of May 11.

In the filing, Eco Building Products described the move as “amicable,” and in harmony with the Vista, California-based company’s focus on Coating Service Only business.

“We hope our protected lumber ends up in Home Depot again in the future through one of the lumber traders or producers whose lumber we perform CSO,” said President and CEO Steve Conboy.

A week before the Home Depot announcement, Conboy explained the company’s CSO strategy in more detail in a press release.

"Eco is in pursuit of more 'coating service only' orders, along with finding more of this niche type business, like lathe strips for roofing companies, which will be produced out of the Company's Tacoma facility,” Conboy said.
