Citing fire hazard, Viking recalls refrigerator freezers

2/20/2018

Viking is recalling its built-in side-by-side refrigerator freezers with in-door dispensers after receiving 27 reports of electrical shorts, as well as four reports of fires.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the electrical connectors in the wiring harness have a tendency to overheat.

The recall affects about 750 units of Viking 42-in. and 48-in. built-in side-by-side refrigerator freezers with in-door water and ice dispensers. They were manufactured between October 2012 and May 2013, sold for between $5,400 and $6,400, and come in various colors and finishes. Model numbers begin with FDSB5421D, VCSB5421D, FDSB5481D and VCSB5481D.

The CPSC is urging consumers to turn off and unplug the freezers, and to contact Viking for a free, in-home repair.
