APA to oversee glulam standards

The American Institute of Timber Construction has transferred three American National Standards to APA – The Engineered Wood Association, effective Jan. 1, 2013. The standards include: 

• American National Standard for Wood Products, Structural Glued Laminated Timber


• American National Standard, Standard for Adhesives for use in Structural Glued Laminated Timber 


• American National Standard, Standard Specification for Structural Glued Laminated Timber of Softwood Species 

All three have been renamed with new ANSI numbers. 

 “We’re pleased to take the responsibility for these standards, which are vital to the glulam industry,” said APA president Dennis Hardman. “We’re taking steps to ensure a smooth transition of the standards committee and to provide uninterrupted support to the industry with up-to-date product standards and design specifications.”

APA is a national standards developer accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and has a long and extensive history in building codes and standards development activities. APA also serves as a third-party quality auditing and testing agency. Headquartered in Tacoma, Wash., the organization operates a 42,000-sq.-ft. research center focused on engineered wood products. A regional quality testing laboratory is also located in Atlanta.
