LP Building Solutions employee and Louisiana resident Kip Faulk recently started a volunteer group, Random Acts of SmartSide, to recruit fellow building industry professionals to lend a hand to victims and responders of Hurricane Laura.

What started off for Faulk as a 24-hour shift of handing out food and coffee to overnight volunteers has now led to him leading his group in a multitude of community projects—both big and small—providing every kind of assistance needed throughout areas affected.

A week after providing food to overnight shift first responders, Faulk organized a group to serve 500 meals in a building material retailer parking lot in Alexandria, La.

He next gathered together a handful of nonprofit organizations to provide supplies for those affected in the lower-income areas of Lake Charles, La.

The volunteers pressure washed a pier for a handicapped veteran.

Faulk and his dedicated group of volunteers didn’t stop there. Since the start of the group, they have taken on many other efforts to rebuild their community:

  • Built a wheelchair-accessible ramp for a family member of a lumberyard worker
  • Built a butterfly garden out of recycled wood for Acadiana Homeschoolers Facility
  • Pressure-washed a wooden pier for a handicapped veteran
  • Repaired fencing damaged by Hurricane Laura at Sacred Heart Church in Broussard, Louisiana
  • Organized a cleaning and hygiene supply drive in Lake Charles, Louisiana with PERC Development
  • Re-sided the dugouts with LP SmartSide siding for the Kaplan Youth Baseball Organization

With the encouragement of his teammates, Faulk said he is proud to have brought LP’s brand to a new level in Louisiana—one of trust, hope and humanity.
