LP Building Solutions (LP) and Axalta, a leading global supplier of paint and coatings, recently teamed up to support the nonprofit network The Crayon Initiative.

Employees from LP and Axalta joined together to recycle crayons and donate them to children at Atrium Health Cabarrus through Jeff Gordon’s Children Foundation, an organization benefiting pediatric cancer patients and their families.

On Nov. 10, LP participated alongside former NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon in a crayon-repurposing event at Axalta facilitated by Bryan Ware, founder and president of The Crayon Initiative.

During the event, LP and Axalta helped sort and melt old, otherwise discarded crayons to make new ones. The new crayons were then donated to pediatric patients of Atrium Health, an integrated, nonprofit health system based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“LP is proud to give back by supporting families within the communities our employees live and work in with meaningful causes like the Crayon Initiative, as well as prioritizing sustainable practices within and outside of the building manufacturing industry,” said Mike Blosser, senior vice president of manufacturing services for LP Building Solutions. This initiative gave our employees the chance to do both, and we are grateful to Jeff Gordon and Bryan Ware for this uniquely rewarding opportunity.”

Through its commitment of “Building a Better World,” LP’s charitable arm, The LP Foundation said that it is dedicated to sponsoring relevant causes that have a true impact in people’s lives.

Raising over $19 million for children’s health organizations since 1999, Jeff Gordon’s Children Foundation makes that impact through patient support programs like The Crayon Initiative, whose mission is to bring happiness to children who face the stress of hospitalization by providing the freedom that comes with creative play through crayons.

“The Crayon Initiative is a great example of an effort to give back some of the childhood joy that can be lost when a child gets sick,” said Jeff Gordon, four-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion and founder of the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation. “I’m especially excited to be a part of today’s collaboration with Axalta and LP Building Solutions to help make a difficult hospital stay brighter for a child.”

This initiative is also fitting for LP as their siding sector recently declared its first Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to highlight the sustainability of their siding. Partnering to reduce any type of unnecessary waste in the world is a way to help their employees individually support the company’s goals as part of their larger sustainability vision.
