Lowe’s Canada makes big donation to community heroes

10/15/2020
The Lowe's Canada network, including stores and distribution centers, raised funds throughout September for its Heroes Campaign.

Lowe's Canada is donating more than 2.1 million Canadian dollars (US$1.56 million) to more than 235 non-profit organizations and public schools across the country.

The retailer is recognizing the organizations and schools as heroes in their communities. Each year Lowe’s recognizes champions of the community through its Lowe’s Canada Heroes Campaign.

This year, for the very first time, 47 stores affiliated with the RONA banner and five distribution centers in the network joined Lowe's, RONA, and Réno-Dépôt corporate stores in this flagship campaign.

Throughout September, 289 Lowe's Canada network sites joined forces to raise funds in support of their chosen partner organization's mission or specific project. As in the past, 50% of the amounts raised were matched by Lowe's Canada, up to a maximum of $2,000 per store or distribution center.

This year, in recognition of the greater needs of hero organizations, which have had to face new challenges and adapt to a new reality, Lowe's Canada also provided an additional amount of $800,000, which was allocated in proportion to the sums raised by participating sites.

“Because of its very local character, this campaign always garners a great deal of enthusiasm from our teams and customers. It was so popular this year that associates from a fifth distribution center decided to join the initiative along the way," said Jean-Sébastien Lamoureux, SVP of public affairs, asset protection, and sustainable development at Lowe's Canada. "The network's efforts paid off: not only is Lowe's Canada presenting a record amount as part of the Lowe's Canada Heroes Campaign this year, but more than 80 partner organizations will receive an amount over $10,000, something we have never seen before!

Based in Boucherville, Quebec, Lowe's Canadian business, together with its wholly-owned subsidiary, RONA inc., operates or services more than 470 corporate and independent affiliate dealer stores in a number of complementary formats under different banners. These include Lowe's, RONA, Réno-Dépôt, and Dick's Lumber.
