LAT joins the Texas Civil Justice League
LAT, a trade association that represents Texas’ building materials industry, has joined the Texas Civil Justice League (TCJL). A desire for legal reforms that support business expansion and economic growth was cited by the group’s leadership as a reason for this investment.
“We have partnered with the TCJL on some of our most important legislative priorities, and we look forward to working together to stop the rising tide of nuclear verdicts in Texas trial courts,” said Kate Borroni, principal at Woodson Lumber Company and president of LAT's board of directors. "TCJL led the way on pandemic liability protections and supported our trucking litigation reforms. This partnership comes at a critical time for our efforts in Austin and allows us to influence an even broader number of issues important to the Texas building materials industry.”
“We are excited for our partnership with LAT as it will strengthen the coalition of advocates who believe that legal reform is one of the most pressing economic issues business owners and consumers face,” said Carol Sims, executive director, Texas Civil Justice League. “In 2023, we saw record numbers of new causes of action and penalties filed against Texas businesses. This is an alarming trend at the legislature, and our ability to counter this threat is strengthened with the participation of the Texas building materials industry.”
Since 1986, the TCJL has led the fight to "restore fairness and stability to the state’s civil justice system." Its members include hundreds of corporate businesses of all sizes, law firms, professional and trade associations, health care providers, and individuals.
Later this month, the LAT board of directors will approve and announce its 2025 Public Policy Priorities, and its members will travel to the Capitol in Austin to advocate for its success at its LAT Action Day on February 6, 2025. LAT’s Government Affairs work in 2024 is sponsored by BoiseCascade, DOMAN Lumber, DW, Georgia-Pacific, LP Building Solutions, Lumber Insurance Services, Pennsylvania Lumbermens Mutual Insurance Company, PrimeSource Building Products, Inc., UFP Retail Solutions, YellaWood Pressure Treated Pine and Weyerhaeuser.
