Home Depot in four charts

Including department-by-department numbers from a year of ‘moderation.’
Ken Clark

The Home Depot CEO Ted Decker famously described the company’s fiscal 2023 sales performance this way. “After three years of exceptional growth for our business, 2023 was a year of moderation,” said Ted Decker, chair, president and CEO.

In 2023, net sales of $152,669,000,000 marked a decline of 3.0 percent from 2022 net sales. Comparable store sales for the full year were negative 3.2 percent.

Net earnings fell 11.5 percent to $15.1 billion in the 12 months ended Jan. 29, 2024.

Perhaps lost among those negative numbers is the fact that Home Depot's most recent fiscal year generated the second-highest annual sales and the third-highest annual net earnings in the company's history.
