Hayward Lumber acquires Economy Lumber

A pair of family-owned California prodealers join forces.

Hayward Lumber, the Campbell, California-based prodealer, announced that it has acquired Economy Lumber.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Economy Lumber is also located in Cambell. 

In a press release, Hayward Lumber said the union of the two “local, family-owned businesses is a significant step forward for the companies and their communities.”

Founded in 1936, Economy Lumber is the first lumberyard in the unincorporated district of Santa Clara County, known as “Burbank”. 

The company later relocated to Campbell.  Under the leadership of John Saunders, the third-generation president and CEO, Economy Lumber has played a vital role in the region’s construction industry.

Economy Lumber and Hayard Lumber are both based in Campbell, California.

Following the acquisition, Hayward Lumber’s expanded footprint will include 8 lumberyards, 6 design centers, a pro tool and repair shop, 1 truss plant, 4 rail yards, and a combined workforce of approximately 270 employees across California.

Employees will also benefit from additional career growth opportunities.”

Both companies are members of LMC, the Wayne, Pennsylvania-based forest products and building materials buying group.

The prodealers also noted that In addition to their business initiatives, Hayward Lumber and Economy Lumber are actively involved in community projects. 

Hayward Lumber has sponsored underserved youth at Rancho Cielo in Salinas, in a project that recently won the Orange County Sustainability Decathlon against major colleges. 

Economy Lumber has a proud history of supporting community theater, Habitat for Humanity, Boy Scouts of America, Santa Clara University, high school shop classes, and the San Jose City College Construction Technology program.
