Recall issued on Hitachi nailers
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with Hitachi Koki, has issued a recall notice for coil nailers with the model number NV83A2 that could cause serious injuries to bystanders when a faulty feeder mechanism allows a nail to be ejected sideways.
Hitachi has received 37 reports of these incidents, including 15 reports of injuries. The injuries were primarily in the eye region, including five reports of partial blindness.
The coil nailers were manufactured in Japan and sold at Lowe’s, Home Depot other home improvement and building supply stores and online at Amazon.com nationwide from November 2002 through March 2006 for $350 to $400. Approximately 50,000 units were sold in the United States and 15,000 units in Canada.
