New name, new products
The merger of the two tool titans Stanley and Black & Decker was finalized in March. Now comes the first wave of product launches under the new name.
On April 8, Black & Decker announced the launch of three new electric mowers of the corded and cordless variety. Specifically, the company unveiled the 36-volt, 19-in. rechargeable mower with removable battery; 36-volt, 18-in. rechargeable mower with rear bag; and the 12-amp, 18-in. corded mulching mower with rear bag.
The products carry traditional Black & Decker colors. They also include instant start, "quiet power" and convenient storage, which are built into each of the products, according to the company.
"Our new mowers feature a high-performance, super efficient motor and a new and improved blade design to generate better cut results and longer run time," said Joe Newland, group product manager, outdoor products.
Also on April 8 and continuing with the yard-work theme, the company launched a 24- volt cordless string trimmer and edger. Also in Black & Decker colors, the new product features two cutting modes -- normal and "Boost."
"Boost mode provides twice the power of standard 18-volt trimmers, eliminating the consumer's worry about having enough battery power to get the job done," said John Weetenkamp, group product manager for outdoor products.
