Michigan hardware store shut down for unpaid taxes
True Value South Lyon Lumber in South Lyon, Mich., has closed its doors, according to the Herald newspaper.
Atyped note posted on the building said the business is closed to prepare for a going-out-of-business sale. There was also a notice of seizure dated Aug. 17 stating that Oakland County will “seize property to an amount sufficient to pay the delinquent personal property taxes, interest and penalty now due in the amount of $2,411 and 2009 taxes, plus the cost of expenses of the seizure,” the article said.
According to Oakland County tax documents obtained by the Herald, the amount of the outstanding 2009 taxes as of Aug. 18 was $27,867.
The store was known as South Lyon Lumber when it was purchased by Mick Weinburger in 1966. It became affiliated with 1987 before Weinburger eventually sold the business. The store is currently owned by South Lyon Lumber and Grove Property.
