Most communities can name at least one hardware store that's played a vital role in its history. But there's generally something "extra" that qualifies a retailer for the annual Hardware All Stars (a feature sponsored by Epicor this year).

The April issue of Hardware + Building Supply Dealer magazine contains the full list of 2015 honorees, and more of their stories. Here are highlights from the class of 2015, continuing today with Michigan and Tennessee.

Mackinaw City, Michigan: Coffman Hardware

Coffman stocks hardware, and then some. It's perhaps better known for its camping, fishing and hunting supplies, as well as its extensive Case knife offerings, displayed prominently on the wall right when you enter.

If it tells you anything, Coffman is also the first Michigan Case knife dealer to reach Master Dealer status.

Belle Meade and Bellevue, Tennessee: Hart Ace Hardware

This Nashville-area store is a niche machine: propane-filling station and tank exchange, screen repair services, Stihl service center, auto chip key cutting, blade and knife sharpening, lamp repair and pipe cutting are some of the offerings.

Owners Frank and Robin Shope also embrace progressive employee training.
