Costello’s Ace Hardware plays to win
When two fantasy sports teams square off in exciting head-to-head competition, winners are determined by runs batted in (baseball), rushing touchdowns (football) or rebounds (basketball).
In Deer Park, N.Y. based Costello’s Ace Hardware’s retail fantasy league – dramatically named “The League” – winners are determined by percentage of sales quota met.
Costello’s introduced The League as a way to bring the competitive juices of fantasy sports to the floors of its 30 New York, New Jersey and Maryland stores.
“I am extremely excited about The League and its ability to drive associate engagement through friendly competition and fun,” said Michael Costello, CEO of Costello’s Ace Hardware.
The interactive weekly sales quota fantasy-league challenge will run throughout 2019. Under the rules of the contest, every store in the Costello’s chain will compete in head-to- head weekly match-ups. At the end of each day, a report will be created with each store’s daily sales information. Those numbers will be compared to the store's weekly quota to determine the team’s fantasy-league score.
After a 45-week regular season, The League will enter a playoff period and, ultimately, a championship game in week 51.
“The result will be a higher level of creativity in solving our customers’ problems and a stronger link to the communities we serve,” Costello said.
