Century-old hardware store to close
Huntington Hardware, a family owned store in Huntington, W.Va., will close its doors this month, according to an article in The State Journal. The building, which is the third location for the 100-year-old business, is being revamped to house a local law firm.
The late Daniel Love, the son of the store's founder, served as president of the West Virginia Hardware Association in 1955 and president of the National Retail Hardware Association in 1968. The store is currently operated by husband-and-wife owners Nancy Love-Pommerenck and Gary Pommerenck.
In recent years, the Pommerencks had explored the possibility of remodeling the building's second and third floor and converting the space into loft-style apartments, according to the news report. But Capital Venture Corp., a Huntington development company, had other plans for the building.
