Around the Web: Woolworths’ Danks deal in doubt

2/20/2018

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Woolworths, an Australian chain store, is facing a new hurdle in its attempted takeover of 150-year-old Danks hardware, a retailer and supplier to 1,500 stores. The deal was part of a larger partnership plan between Woolworths and Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe’s to develop a big-box hardware store chain in Australia.

The Danks acquisition, a deal worth 87.6 million Australian dollars (US$80.5 million), may be in jeopardy, after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said the purchase could reduce retail competition.
