The All Star Countdown Continues
The 2016 Hardware All Stars issue celebrates high performing independent retailers, whether they sell, lumber, hardware or farm and ranch supplies.
Our annual All Star issue appeared earlier this month, and we’ll continue to recognize our honorees three-at-a-time in our digital products – including our three honorees below:
Tennessee
Duncan Lumber
What began as a company selling one tree at a time is now in its fourth generation operated by Andy Duncan. Duncan Lumber was one of the first in the industry to incorporate an indoor lumberyard design, preceding the big boxes. The company is a loyal supporter of local schools, churches, Habitat for Humanity and the Make a Wish Foundation.
Texas
Jabo’s Ace Hardware
Bill Jablonowski said he was attracted to the hardware business for many reasons, most acutely because of the quality of the people. “I knew this was the kind of business I could build a future around,” he said. Together with his wife Renae, they strive to create memorable shopping experiences; their newest store, Jabo’s Westcliff Ace Hardware, was completely retrofitted in early 2009.
Utah
Loa Do It Best
Owner Greg Pace is willing to go the extra mile—84 of them to be exact—on Special Delivery Thursday. “We send a truck to the cities of Boulder and Escalante, Utah, which is 84 miles from my store, and there’s not a hardware store over there. We load up goods and drop them off at people’s houses all over.”
