Ace store clerk tapped for role as city manager
According to an article in The Tennessean, a part-time store clerk at Ace Hardware in Mt. Juliet has been tapped by the city as interim city manager.
In addition to his hardware store duties, Kenny Martin is also a longtime Mt. Juliet city employee specializing in business development. Martin is also a police officer in Lebanon, Tenn.
The importance of the neighborhood hardware store as a community building institution was supported by a quote that appeared in the newspaper: "It's amazing some of the conversations you'll have with citizens at a hardware store," Martin said.
Martin is expected to be interim city manager for about three to six months. The current city manager took a job as city manager of Vestavia Hills, Ala., a job that will begin Jan. 9, the newspaper reported.
