A Home Depot store in San Jose, Calif. was incinerated to the ground on Saturday afternoon after a fire broke out at the location's lumber department.
The blaze turned into a five-alarm fire that took firefighters six hours or better to battle.
No injuries were reported among customers, employees, and firefighters. The fire started around 5:00 p.m. PDT when the Home Depot location had a steady stream of customers.
The fire was so strong, due to the amount of lumber, chemicals, and plastics in the store, that the National Weather Service reported its satellites picked up the heat signature of the fire from space.
Area residents were told to remain indoors as firefighters extinguished the fire due to the negative impact on the neighborhood’s air quality.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, local fire officials said.
The Home Depot operates six other locations in the San Jose market.
