A Reunion embraces 'the Profit'
True Value Company CEO John Hartmann says reality TV star Marcus Lemonis brings a lot to the retail table.
"He’s personable," Hartmann told HBSDealer. "He's a very smart and clever guy, and he’s a serial entrepreneur, as are many of our retailers. So it’s a natural fit for us, and we’re excited that we’re able to provide that kind of talent."
Lemonis will headline the co-op's dealer-only Retail Best Practices event prior to the True Value Reunion Feb. 19-21 in Houston. In addition to the reality TV star of "The Profit," the best practices sessions will include Rohit Bhargava, best-selling author of such works as "Non Obvious" and "Likeonomics."
Registration for the market -- the official theme of which is "The Value of Momentum" -- is running ahead of previous years, Hartmann said. "By the time we wrap it up, we'll have a record number for our Spring Reunion."
The Reunion will recognize the 2015 class of "Best Hardware Store in Town" honorees. The revamped selection process is based on the co-op's Roadmap to Retail Excellence program. Also for the first time, an overall "Best Hardware Store in the Country" retailer will be named.
An enhanced version of the WOW-Giveaway will return to the market floor. "We had such a a positive reaction to our WOW-Giveaway at the Fall Reunion that we are doing it again," Hartmann said. "Last time, we gave away product for store remodels. This time it's cold hard cash."
Two participants drawn randomly will be able to snag up to $20,000 in cash in the Grab that Dough booth on Friday. Another two will be given the chance on Saturday, and a final contestant will grab the money on Sunday morning.
Also coming back to the show, after years of hiatus and by popular demand, are Quiet Hours during which members can explore the floor in the absence of vendor reps and without sales interaction. These will be in play before and after normal hours on Saturday, and again on Sunday morning.
