Marketing Magic: An indie retailer's viral moment

Petersburg, Indiana-based Petersburg Hardware recently hit the coveted social media jackpot -- the views on a recent video it posted numbered into the tens of thousands.

To promote an anniversary sale it held this spring, the retailer created a comical, sped-up video that featured Petersburg employees trying to get the details straight regarding the promotion (and an increasingly frustrated man with the answers).

To repeat: it's not a no sales tax day. It's just 7% off everything in the store -- and 20% of all Echo machines, with a buy one get one for $5 on paint.

After the original video got more than 27,000 views, the store followed up with a time-lapse video of the store on sales day, held on Saturday, April 8, 2017.

Pretty remarkable for a store located in a town of just 2,500 people.
