Crystal Vision continues battle against poverty

Industry leaders will step up to support the global charity in Las Vegas.

In the mid 1990s, a general contractor was determined to find a solution to keep excess contracting materials from going to waste.

The idea took off.

By 2000, a group of business, community, and faith-based volunteers joined together to match these products with children and families in need. Together with World Vision, they formed the Crystal Vision Committee and launched the Storehouse of World Vision.

And during the upcoming Design & Construction Week in Las Vegas, the idea will flourish in the form of the Crystal Vision Awards Breakfast to raise awareness and celebrate businesses and individuals who are helping to equip families in the United States to lift themselves out of poverty.

The event is slated for Feb. 1, from 7-9 a.m. at the Westgate Las Vegas. Register here for free.

“I would like to applaud the building materials industry for putting aside their day-to-day competition and coming together with a joint focus and shared values to provide much-needed product to those who otherwise could not obtain it,” said Larry Noble, of World Vision. “We look forward to celebrating their efforts again this year at the annual Crystal Vision event.”

This year features a panel discussion with executives from some of the biggest brands in building materials. The topic: how to excel in the current challenging business environment. The panel includes:

• Joe Barnes, EVP sourcing and supply chain, Builders FirstSource;
• Jeff Curler, EVP purchasing, Orgill;
• Zach Elkin, president, Beko Home Appliances U.S.;
• Jeff Kinnaird, EVP merchandising, The Home Depot; and
• Shawn Oldenhoff, president, kitchen and bath, Kohler.

Also, John Herbert, managing director of the Global Home Improvement Network will deliver remarks on the international market.

In addition to the panel discussion, the event will bestow three awards to deserving leaders:

Crystal Vision Award: Given to a manufacturing company that has supported The Storehouse of World Vision for a minimum of 5-7 years:

Partnership Award: Given to a company within the building materials industry that has partnered with The Storehouse of World Vision for a minimum of 3-5 years and/or has brought exceptional value to the program.

Lifetime Achievement Award: Given to an individual who has consistently supported the Crystal Vision Award event and The Storehouse for a minimum of 8 years. Past honorees include Mary Wisman of Mary Wisman Design & Consultation; Paul Hylbert, whose career resume includes leadership roles Wicke’s, ProBuild Holdings and also Kodiak Building Partners; and Jim Inglis, a former Home Depot executive and current president of Inglis Retailing.
