Capitol Hill comes to ProDealer Industry Summit

Congressional leaders to share business and legislative insights at D.C. event.

The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association is bringing legislators and policy makers to the annual ProDealer Industry Summit, coming March 29-April 1 at the Hyatt Regency in Washington, D.C.

Representatives Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) and Adrian Smith (R-NE) are the featured keynote speakers at the Washington Briefing Breakfast during the 2022 ProDealer Industry Summit.

The Washington Briefing Breakfast provides attendees an opportunity to hear firsthand from senior policymakers on key issues affecting the lumber and building material industry. The speakers will provide an update on important policy issues facing the country including the economy, supply chain, taxes, housing, labor and more.

Luetkemeyer, a ranking member of the House Small Business Committee has represented the 3rd Congressional District of Missouri since 2009. He is also a member of the House Financial Services Committee which oversees housing policy and the nation’s financial system.

Along with his strong agriculture background, Rep. Luetkemeyer is a small businessman, having been in the banking and insurance industry for over 30 years. He also served as a bank regulator for the state of Missouri earlier in his career. Rep. Luetkemeyer served in the Missouri State House of Representatives from 1999 to 2005.

Smith has represented the 3rd Congressional District of Nebraska since 2007 and currently serves as a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee which has jurisdiction over tax and trade policy. Last year, he was selected to be the top-ranking Republican of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade. He also serves as a member of the Subcommittee on Health. 

He has consistently fought for tax relief for Nebraska families, agriculture producers, and small businesses, including helping to craft the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Prior to his election to Congress, he served his hometown as a member of the city council and later served in the Nebraska Legislature for eight years.

The 2022 ProDealer Industry Summit agenda, also includes an in-depth look at national issues from the perspective of the NLBMDA industry lobbyists.

In a session titled “ Washington Update: A State of Play,” Kevin McKenney, director of government affairs for the NLBMDA will examine how the Biden Administration and congressional Democrats have been working to address the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to passing a comprehensive legislative package that includes action on climate change, clean energy, infrastructure.

NLBMDA has been heavily engaged in the legislative and regulatory arena on behalf of the lumber and building material dealer industry in the U.S. and this session will cover the latest updates on key issues affecting our members. NLBMDA staff will provide an in-depth look at a recent infrastructure package and the Build Back Better Act, in addition to affordable housing issues and more.

Also, the session will cover lobbying efforts at the regulatory level, ranging from NLBMDA efforts to address supply chain issues and softwood lumber pricing, and OSHA’s recent action on an Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) for COVID-19.
