More than 1,600 volunteers placed wreaths on veterans’ graves at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville on December 14 as part of the national “Wreaths Across America” Day. And for the first time ever, every veteran’s grave at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery was adorned with a wreath for the holidays, thanks to broad support from Brownsboro Hardware & Paint, its customers and the community.

Brownsboro Hardware & Paint, with Kentucky stores in Louisville and Prospect, adopted the “Wreaths Across America” project four years ago, asking customers and the community to sponsor a wreath for the nearby national cemetery. Each year, the campaign gained strength and this year, all 11,000-plus graves were covered. The company engaged in an intense local media effort and implemented a comprehensive social media plan to make the campaign a success.

“We have waited for years to be able to say we are covering every veteran’s grave for the holidays, said Dr. Scott Giltner, location coordinator, Gov. Isaac Shelby Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution. “We are astounded at the phenomenal community support this year and are so gratified by Brownsboro Hardware & Paint’s efforts. We could not have achieved this without them.”

“Covering every grave with a wreath became a mission for us,” added Doug Carroll, owner of Brownsboro Hardware & Paint. “Zachary Taylor National Cemetery is within walking distance of our store, and we have many veterans who shop with us. We invest in the community that invests in us. I can’t thank our customers and friends enough for stepping up to help again this year.”

Brownsboro Hardware & Paint recently celebrated its 64th anniversary. A national hardware magazine, HBS Dealer, awarded the store its “Superstar” recognition for being the top hardware store in Kentucky over the past decade. In addition, the Better Business Bureau has awarded Brownsboro Hardware & Paint the “Torch Award for Ethics,” and the Prospect Area Chamber of Commerce has recognized Brownsboro Hardware & Paint as “Best Employer.”
