Lowe's executive Bill Boltz will follow in a long line of industry executives to receive a prestigious honor from City of Hope, the Duarte, Calif.-based medical research and treatment facility.

Boltz, executive VP of merchandising at Lowe's, has been selected to receive the 2021 Spirit of Life Award. The award is presented annually to an industry leader who has demonstrated outstanding business and altruistic achievement.

“As a longtime supporter of City of Hope, it is a true honor to receive The Spirit of Life Award for the hardware industry,” said Boltz. “It has been a personal privilege to support this organization for more than 30 years in its mission to eradicate cancer and other life-threatening diseases through unparalleled care, research and education. I look forward to carrying on these efforts alongside an incredible group of past honorees.”

The Spirit of Life Award will be officially presented Feb. 8, 2021, one day before the start of the International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Florida. In addition to honoring Boltz, the National Hardware/Homebuilding Industry will celebrate its 39th anniversary at its gala.

“We’re pleased to recognize Bill for his outstanding passion and philanthropic efforts over so many years,” said Kevin Courtney, senior executive director of development, National Hardware/Homebuilding Industry, City of Hope. “Bill joins an esteemed group of industry executives who have lead our annual campaign to increase awareness of our mission to be at the center of curing cancer and diabetes by ensuring our groundbreaking research and our compassionate care model for patients and families continue to create impact worldwide.”

Since its inception, the HHI has raised more than $165 million, support that's been instrumental to City of Hope's advancements in research, treatment and education. One reason for that support is the seriousness of the diseases City of Hope is fighting.

About 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Designated as a comprehensive cancer center, the highest honor bestowed by the National Cancer Institute, City of Hope is a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Its lifesaving research and treatment advances improve the lives of people around the nation, and numerous breakthrough cancer drugs are based on technology pioneered at City of Hope. Further, its commitment to compassionate patient care and its approach to individualized treatment are considered models for supportive care in the United States.
