BMC acquires TW Perry

11/30/2020

The second half of 2020 has brought on massive mergers and acquisitions in the lumber and building supplies distribution market.

And before the calendar soon turns to 2021, another big LBM deal has occurred.

BMC Stock Holdings announced that it has entered into a definitive purchase agreement to acquire TW Perry, a leading building materials supplier serving the Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. markets.

TW Perry generated nearly $200 million in total net sales for a 12-month period ended Sept. 30, 2020. The transaction is subject to the satisfaction or waiver of customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed in December 2020. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We look forward to welcoming the associates of TW Perry to the BMC team,” said Dave Flitman, president and CEO of BMC. “We are impressed with their pro remodel business, highly diverse customer base and value-added product mix, which is aligned with BMC’s core strategy. This addition will expand our portfolio in the growing Northern Virginia, Maryland and D.C. markets.”

Earlier this month, TW Perry announced that it had acquired Peoples Supply Co., Inc. (PSC) based in Hyattsville, Md. PSC serves Prince George’s County, Md., Washington, D.C., and surrounding areas with a contractor yard and retail store located in Hyattsville.

The acquisition also arrives as BMC prepares to finalize its mega-merger with Builders FirstSource, creating an $11 billion pro dealer powerhouse. The pro dealer recently cleared a government approval hurdle in its proposed merger, which is scheduled to be finalized at the end of this year or early 2021.

TW Perry was founded in 1911 and operates six lumber yards, retail stores, a design studio, a custom millwork operation, and a truss manufacturing facility. The company supplies lumber, building materials, doors and windows, hardware, decking and railing products, paint, and power tools to professional remodelers and custom builders.

The Gaithersburg, Md.-based dealer also offers a wide selection of millwork products, including more than 250 in-stock moulding profiles, as well as special order products.

Based in Raleigh, N.C., BMC serves 45 metropolitan areas across 18 states, principally in the South and West.
