REPORT: Tariffs will make California rebuilding even pricier

8/16/2018
Tariffs and the rising prices of lumber and building materials will take another heavy toll on a region devasted by wildfires.

More than 1,000 homes have been destroyed in California’s wildfires this year, while hundreds more have suffered damage. But when the rebuilding process is underway, it will be even more costly this time around, according to a report by ABC News.

According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), higher material costs have added another $4,000 to the price of the average single-family home. And a tight housing inventory continues to raise the price of what’s available on the market, from coast-to-coast.

As is, the most expensive housing markets in the country are in California, according to the National Association of Realtors.

Both the NAHB and National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association have urged the Trump Administration to return to the negotiating table and hammer out a new Softwood Lumber Agreement with Canada.
