American Builders Supply (ABS), the lumber and building materials distribution business based in Sanford, Fla., and a Kodiak Building Partners company, announced the promotion of George Wilkins to Senior Vice President of Operations.

Wilkins will be responsible for overseeing and leading both the millwork and lumber products divisions for the company from operations, continual improvement, and employee development perspectives.

For the past year, Wilkins served as Vice President of Strategic Planning & People Development at ABS. He previously served as Vice President of Operations at ABS for three years.

Before joining ABS, Wilkins held numerous senior operations leadership roles in the industry at Jeld-Wen, Knight-Celotex, Red River International, and CertainTeed.

“As we pursue our goal of building an enduring people-focused company, I couldn’t be more excited to have George continue his work with our operations teams,” said Cliff Shimer, ABS President. “His expertise across the building materials industry coupled with his passion for continual improvement and people development, will allow ABS to continue to grow profitably while elevating the skill sets of our teams to set us up for future success. These activities will also expand our customer value proposition as George works closely with our sales team with voice of the customer input into the continual improvement process.”

Since joining ABS in April 2018, Wilkins has progressively taken on added responsibilities in several roles and excelled in each while developing and motivating others to follow in his steps, embodying ABS’ leadership values, the company said.

In his latest role, Wilkins will work closely with ABS’ operations leads and collaborate with ABS’ sales teams to further enhance the company’s value proposition and the overall customer experience through operational excellence.

“I am honored to be leading our efforts to focus on employee development and building upon our family-type culture,” Wilkins said. “We have an excellent team of dedicated employees, and nothing is more rewarding than providing the vision and support to improve our processes while simultaneously enhancing the skills and future advancement for our employees as they grow both personally and professionally.”

With locations in Sanford, Tampa, Winter Haven, Clermont, Melbourne, Jacksonville, and Fort Myers, ABS provides high-quality doors, millwork, windows, trusses, and lumber to contractors, while serving Florida’s single-family and multi-family new construction projects.

Yesterday, Kodiak announced that Christensen Lumber’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Tim Ferguson, has been promoted to President of Christensen Lumber following Tom Christensen’s transition to Chairman.
