84 Lumber rewards honest veterans

Drew Barrymore discusses a big find with James and Clarrisa Munfrod.

When moving into a new house, many homeowners sometimes find treasures left behind by the previous owners.

When U.S. Army veterans James and Clarrisa Munford moved into their new home, they discovered a more valuable treasure than usual: $25,000 worth of gold and silver coins.

The Munfords could tell the coins were worth a lot of money, but they never even considered keeping them. They knew they belonged to the previous owners of their house, so they returned the coins right away.

After hearing the Munford’s story, 84 Lumber decided to honor them for being an excellent example of integrity in their community.

On Dec. 11, the company appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show and surprised the couple with $25,000 – and this time, it was theirs to keep.

“Our gift to the Munfords is our way of saying ‘thank you’ for being an amazing example of honesty and integrity – values that mean a lot to us,” said 84 Lumber President Maggie Hardy Knox. “We hope this gift will help them with any updates they have planned for turning their new house into a home.”

In 2020, 84 Lumber has made more than $1 million in charitable donations, including giving back to several military veterans and veteran organizations.

84 Lumber said that given that the Munford family has two U.S. Army veterans made the company even more excited to surprise them with the $25,000 gift.
