84 Lumber announced its mid-year Team Headquarters Award program winners, with the Business Excellence Award going to Trevor Runk, inventory manager, and the Rising Star Award going to Joe Jena, director of talent acquisition.

“Trevor has been an invaluable asset to 84 Lumber,” said the vice president of inventory management, Rich Scalise. “In his time as inventory manager, he has created a special-order window warehouse inventory system, a highly effective scanning system to enhance efficiency in our warehouse, and enhanced many other systems used to manage inventory.”

Runk, who joined 84 Lumber in 2018, keeps his team engaged, embraces 84 Lumber’s culture, and continues to inspire others, said the firm. Starting as an operations manager, Runk was promoted to his current position nearly a year later.

The Business Excellence Award recognizes an associate who has demonstrated leadership skills, achievement, growth, and success at 84 Lumber.

“He has a profound empathy for our associates’ needs, and a willingness to accommodate requests,” said Scalise. “His loyalty to the company belief that nothing is impossible is the perfect example of what business excellence at 84 Lumber is all about.”

The second honor, the Rising Star Award, was awarded to Joe Jena, director of talent acquisition. Jena began his career as a recruiter in 2019 and was promoted to senior recruiter in December of 2021. Less than a year later, Jena was promoted to his current role.

“Joe has done a phenomenal job stepping in the director of talent acquisition role,” said 84 Lumber’s CIO and head of HR, Paul Yater. “He is focused on helping our stores and locations find great associates and helps recruiting be great partners. Joe lives and breathes the 84 culture.”

This award recognizes up-and-coming associates at 84 Lumber. This person is an associate to watch, who has had a significant impact on their team and has a bright future with the company.

“Trevor and Joe are really great representatives of the 84 Lumber culture,” said Maggie Hardy, owner and CEO of 84 Lumber. “We have always taken pride in hiring the best people for our company, and it shows when we have associates like them to represent us in our day-to-day business.”

84 Lumber began the new awards program in 2022 to recognize and award associates at 84 Lumber. Twice a year, 84 Lumber associates at headquarters can nominate fellow associates for each award. The company leadership team then selects the final winners from the list of nominations.

Founded in 1956 and headquartered in Eighty Four, Pennsylvania, 84 Lumber Co. is the nation’s largest privately held supplier of building materials, manufactured components and industry-leading services for single and multi-family residences and commercial buildings.
