Started in 2022 and held biannually, associates at 84 Lumber's headquarters can

nominate their colleagues for two awards: the Business Excellence Award and the Rising Star Award. The company’s leadership team then carefully selects the ultimate recipients from among the list of nominees.

The first honor, the Business Excellence Award, acknowledges an associate who has exhibited exemplary leadership, accomplishments, professional growth, and contributions to 84 Lumber.

Rachel Wolfe, currently serving as payroll manager, earned this distinction. She joined the company in March 2015 and was promoted to her present position in January 2020.

“Rachel is the epitome of a servant leader and does not let anything prevent her team from getting payroll processed for over 7,000 associates bi-weekly and 1,000 associates weekly,” said Angela Seaborn, senior director of human resources operations. “She leads by example and will come in as early as 5 a.m. and has stayed as late as 7 p.m. to make sure payroll gets processed on time. Her exceptional dedication and expertise in managing payroll have not only streamlined many of our processes but also contributed significantly to the overall success of our team.”

“Rachel cares about 84 Lumber and it shows,” stated one of Wolfe’s associates. “She is so deserving of this award; she is a great asset to the payroll department and 84 Lumber.”

The second honor, the Rising Star Award, was bestowed upon Nathan Kiger, an IT service desk analyst. Kiger joined the company in February 2023 as a Level 1 Support Analyst and has since been promoted to his current role. His adept leadership skills are apparent in his proactive approach to managing diverse challenges within his domain.

“When Nate recognizes his peers working through a challenging situation, he frequently jumps in to offer his help,” said Lou Daddea, senior manager of IT support and operations at 84 Lumber. Daddea shared recent feedback from a store he felt summed up Kiger’s contributions very well. “Nate did a great job at fixing our store’s POS system. He had a great attitude, seemed like he wanted to help, and was very fast and efficient. Overall, 10/10.”

“Nate has shown leadership skills and the willingness to dig into any problem that arises since I began here,” stated an 84 Lumber associate. “He is the most dependable and assistive in my day-to-day questions and learning.”
