Webinar Alert: Deep dive into succession

HBSDealer will host a free, live succession planning webinar on Aug. 12.
8/9/2021

Join HBSDealer for a deep dive into best practices for companies preparing for succession in its various forms.

A live, free webinar discussion will take place on Aug. 12 at 11 a.m. EDT.

To cover all bases, HBSDealer has assembled a panel of industry experts who will discuss:

  • Decision points for independents;
  • Short term vs. long-term planning;
  • Experiences from the front lines;
  • Culture vs. strategy.

Panel participants include:

  • Samuel Brownell:  Brownell formed Stratus Capital Management in July 2013 to provide goals-based investment management to individuals and small businesses. As the firm grew, Sam began to focus on serving independent business owners in specific sectors, including the LBM and Hardware markets, who sought Sam’s advice on their own business growth issues, including valuation, tax strategy, business continuity planning and succession planning.
  • Gentry Hipp: Gentry Hipp is owner of Hipp Equipment Rental in Heber Springs, Ark., and represents the fourth generation of Arkansas retailer Hipp Modern Building Supply, which was recently acquired by Nation's Best. The family business accepted the Golden Hammer award for service and innovation at the 2014 National Hardware Show.
  • Anne Marie Buck: Buck is the director, Human Resources for a Few Cool Hardware Stores; a multi-store chain of 13 urban stores in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. In her current role, she is able to tap into her education and her own experiences as an operations manager and educator to guide the store managerial teams to help their associates reach their potential.
  • Jay Ward: Ward was the president and fourth-generation owner of Ward Lumber until March of 2021 when he realized a long-term vision of transitioning his family-owned, 130-year-old company to employee ownership through a worker-owned cooperative (as opposed to an ESOP). Ward Lumber is a successful two-unit lumber yard, hardware and paint store operation located in the Adirondacks and North Country of New York state. The company is now directly owned by more than 40 of the 60 employee team members.
  • Ken Clark: editor in chief of HBSDealer.
