Top Showrooms: Marcus Lumber
Marcus Lumber, based in Marcus, Iowa, might be in a small community, but its show-stopping showroom would turn heads in any metropolis.
According to Grant Leavitt, part-owner of Marcus Lumber, the company's showroom expansion was driven by goal of "becoming a true destination retailer."
"Our store not only competes with other retailers in larger towns, but also with entertainment aspects of those larger towns. Many patrons will go to the larger towns to shop, eat, and be entertained. We needed to create something so different and so impressive it, of itself, was worthy of a 45-minute drive. Something of a Cabela’s effect," he says.
Leavitt adds: "We’re a bit unique in that we’re located in a town of 1,200 people but have a store close to 26,000-sq.-ft. – nearly half of which is a product showroom."
