The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) issued a statement saying that it is opposed to tax increases that would result in hurting small businesses as well as slowing down the economy.
Additionally, the NLBMDA is calling for its members to tell Congress to oppose the tax increases.
Here is the full statement from the NLBMDA:
As Congress and the White House remain in negotiations over a comprehensive infrastructure bill, NLBMDA continues to lobby against the inclusion of harmful tax increases that would burden small businesses and slow our nation’s economic recovery. NLBMDA has had a number of productive conversations with Congress, including the House Committee on Ways and Means and Senate Committee on Finance, stressing the importance of empowering small businesses through infrastructure legislation instead of hindering them with new tax increases. In addition, NLBMDA recently sent a letter to Congress to reiterate its position on the issue of taxes.
NLBMDA has created a grassroots alert, which allows members to easily contact their elected officials and urge them to oppose tax increases in any future infrastructure legislation. NLBMDA encourages members to utilize this alert and go on record with their legislators regarding the LBM industry’s tax priorities.
NLBMDA was encouraged to see that the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework recently agreed to by President Biden and members of the U.S. Senate did not include any new tax increases on small businesses. NLBMDA strongly believes that Congress should maintain this position moving forward and reject any new tax increases on job-creators, including increases to the corporate tax rate, pass-through deduction for small business, capital gains tax, estate tax, and others.
