Windows at 40% off, sort of

Pella Window and Door Replacement is offering 40% off to certain homeowners. And they're throwing in a free, no-obligation in-home consultation.

That's the message of a recent mailing, explaining the limited-time promotion. The fine print further explains that the discount applies only to the cost of installation, and requires a minimum purchase of $4,000.

In a letter to home owners, John Healey, general manager of the installed sales division for Pella Window and Door Replacement, said the process is as simple as: 1) Call to schedule an appointment; 2) meet with a Pella expert; and 3) get a free quote. The marketing campaign also emphasized no money down, no payments and no interest for 12 months (subject to qualifying credit approval).

Also in the mailing designed to drum up business, the company promoted what it called its "Limited Lifetime Warranty on Pella Wood Windows and Patio Doors."
