Whirlpool Corporation is introducing Refresh & Recycle, a new recycling initiative to equip consumers with a more eco-friendly way to dispose of their refrigerator water filters.

"Our company has fostered a culture of responsibility for more than 100 years," said Maureen Sertich, North American sustainability lead for Whirlpool Corporation. "Our appliances are some of the most energy-efficient in the world. Whirlpool Corporation's corporate sustainability strategy is focused on reducing the environmental impact from our products at each stage of the lifecycle."

The recycling program, launched in partnership with recycling company g2revolution, will see to it that used water filters bypass landfills and are reused in concrete aggregate.

Through the program, consumers can mail in their used filters using recycling mailers that can be purchased at g2 revolution's second life store at g2rev.com. Used water filters can come from any brand or manufacturer.

Whirlpool recommends that water filters be replaced every six months for optimal performance.
