Toddler rescued from gun safe at Lowe’s
A 2-year-old boy became trapped in a large gun safe in a Lowe’s store in Missouri before firefighters used tools to free the toddler, according to an article in the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
The child, who was not identified, wandered away from his parents at the Wentzville store on July 30, climbed into the open safe, and somehow closed the door, which locked him inside.
Store employees tried unsuccessfully to unlock the safe. Firefighters arrived and drilled a small hole in the top of the safe so they could insert an oxygen tube for the boy. Then they used a hydraulic tool to pry it open.
The procedure took about 20 minutes, and the toddler exited the safe unharmed. Authorities said they were investigating why the safe door had been left open.
