Survey: Millennials care more about their lawns
"Get off my lawn" was once an old man phrase, but no longer.
According to a recent survey from John Deere, Millennial homeowners covet nice lawns more than their elders. Specifically, they beat older generations by a margin of 44% to 37% in aspiring to have a lawn that's the envy of the neighborhood -- above even having a nice TV.
That said, Millennials are not as experienced when it comes to lawn care and upkeep, which John Deere has identified as a ripe market opportunity.
"At John Deere, we know a beautiful green yard is important to the overall look of a property," said Mark Schmidt, principal scientist, John Deere. "By learning best practices and using properly maintained equipment, homeowners will likely see an improvement in the overall appearance of their lawns."
Among other findings, homeowners (in general) tend to spend 2.5 to 3 hours working on their lawns each week.
However, respondents spend less annually on lawn care than home repairs, automobile repairs, holiday gifts and retirement savings.
