Somerville poised to lead LMC
Lumbermens Merchandising Corp. (LMC), the industry’s largest lumber and building materials buying group, has named John Somerville Jr. as its new president and CEO, effective Oct. 1. Somerville replaces Tony DeCarlo, who is retiring after 32 years with the co-op.
Somerville comes to LMC from Dow Building Solutions, where he last served as sales VP. During his 35 years with Dow, Somerville held a variety of positions, including director of marketing and sales for North American fabricated products and commercial director for building materials, North America.
Somerville currently serves on the board and the executive committee of the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA), where he chairs the Manufacturers Service Council. He also serves on the ProDealer Industry Summit Advisory Board. Somerville holds a seat on the Policy Advisory Board for the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies.
Founded in 1935 by 35 lumberyard owners in southeastern Pennsylvania, LMC now serves 350 independently owned LBM dealers who operate 1,200 locations in every state in the continental United States and the Bahamas. The Wayne, Pa.-based company ranked second on the Home Channel News Top 150 Distributors Scoreboard, with $3.2 billion in annual sales.
