Scotts' GRO1000 Grassroots Grants are back

2/20/2018

Scotts Miracle-Gro Company is bringing back its annual GRO1000 Grassroots Grants for the spring season, and it's already announced the winners.

The crop of grant recipients for 2015 include more than 100 civic and non-profit organizations across the U.S.

Among these is the city of Detroit, which won the first ever "GRO1000 People's Choice Community Garden Grant," determined by public voting.

The grant money will go toward beautification projects in public gardens and green spaces, specifically those with a community-oriented bent.

"Whether it's transforming blighted communities or increasing habitats for wildlife, public greenscapes improve people's lives," said Jim King, chief communications officer and senior VP, ScottsMiracle-Gro. "It's a privilege to support these deserving organizations and bring more green spaces to their communities."

The Grassroots Grants are now in their fifth year. They are part of Scotts' GRO1000 initiative, which aims to create more than 1,000 community gardens and green spaces in the U.S., Canada and Europe by 2018.
