Readers Respond: Divided we stand on Sears-Amazon
Amazon is usually in the headlines, but between its blockbuster buyout of Whole Foods and its recent partnership with Sears, home improvement retailers have been talking about the online giant more than usual.
When word got out that Sears would be selling its appliances through Amazon, its stock shot up, and many home improvement stocks dropped in anticipation of what this could possibly mean for appliance retailing.
So we took to the polls to find out how our readers actually felt about this plot twist. In a poll earlier this week, we asked: "Sears will sell Kenmore appliances through Amazon.com. What's your take?"
As it turns out, our readers seem fairly divided on this. "Ho hum," said 42%. "That's a formidable combination of brand and distribution prowess," said another 41%.
Only 14% said "Wow. This changes everything in appliance retailing." And another 3% said "Bring it on. I'd love to compete with that combination in that category."
What do you think? There's still time to vote.
