Plywood mill to close

A plywood manufacturing plant operated by Georgia-Pacific in Peterman, Ala., will close next month due to low housing starts. Company spokeswoman Julie Davis told Home Channel News that the facility is being idled “indefinitely.”

“We will be winding down operations by mid-January,” Davis said. “This is not a permanent closure.”

The factory, which also which also makes tongue and groove siding, employs approximately 300 workers.
