Packaged goods with a powerful 'green' message
Here’s an idea of what can be done with recycled batteries: Make new batteries.
That’s actually an award-winning idea-come-to-life from St. Louis-based Energizer Holdings, makers of Energizer EcoAdvanced batteries. The product, described as the world’s first AA battery made with 4% recycled batteries, was named the Sustainability winner by an outfit called “Product of the Year.”
“When our scientists began the seven-year journey to create a high-performance battery made with 4% recycled batteries, we knew we were taking on a challenge that many experts considered impossible,” said Michelle Atkinson, chief consumer officer at Energizer. The product is not only on shelves, it’s the highest-performing alkaline battery in Energizer’s lineup.
The Product of the Year group tallies the results of a 40,000-strong consumer panel to recognize innovation in 29 packaged-goods categories. (For instance, in the “home and kitchen category,” the winner was Finish Powerball Max 1 dishwash.)
The need to differentiate is strong: “Nearly 50,000 new packaged goods products are introduced each year,” said Rich Fryling, managing director for Product of the Year USA.
