NHS energizes its categories
The organizers of the National Hardware Show have developed an expertise in the art and science of product classification — and this year the May 6-8 event in Las Vegas is taking the science to new levels.
The sprawling Las Vegas Convention Center will see an increased emphasis on three new or expanded categories in 2014: Emergency preparedness and disaster recovery, Energy efficient and Made in USA. These specialty areas and product displays round out an already sizeable collection of product categories designed to make the National Hardware Show easier to navigate — from Building Products, Farm & Ranch and the ever-popular Tailgate products, and of course, Hardware & Tools.
The disaster-recovery concentration offers retailers a niche opportunity that can serve customers and communities in times of greatest need.
“The response to our new Emergency Preparedness & Disaster Recovery category has been outstanding,” said Richard Russo, VP of the National Hardware Show. “We have a fantastic representation of manufacturers that understand the importance of providing products that help communities.”
Vendors echo the recovery-related theme: We Energy costs are another pressing issue addressed on the show floor. With shoppers asking for more ways to lower their energy bills, the show has expanded its focus on energy-efficient products and brands.
And also, the Made in the USA Product Display at the 2014 National Hardware Show will give attendees a chance to source products that are proudly made in the USA. The patriotism is combined with good business sense, according to the show organizers. The show points to a recent survey showing that 83% of respondents say they pay attention to whether a product is labeled “Made in the USA.”
This is the first year there will be a dedicated area on the Show Floor with more than 125 companies with products made in the USA.
