New Ace store opens in San Diego
Sterling Hardware Group, a San Diego company owned by the brother and sister team Harry and Pam Schwartz, has opened an Ace Hardware store in downtown San Diego.
Downtown Ace Hardware, located on 6th Ave., between G and Market streets, has 7,500 sq. ft. of retail space and offers a product mix geared toward urban living. Housewares, small appliances, cleaning suppliers, home organization and storage, and “patio living” will be among its specialties, according to Pam Schwartz.
“There’s a huge [hardware retail] void in downtown San Diego, which we noticed when we worked here,” Pam Schwartz told Home Channel News. The new store owners, former event planners, had to drive miles to buy hardware supplies for their downtown office, she recalled.
San Diego Hardware, which opened in the Gaslamp District in 1892, relocated to another part of the city in 2006.
San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders attended the chain-cutting ceremony for Downtown Ace Hardware on May 1, along with a representative from Ace corporate. Prize drawings, demonstrations, giveaways, refreshments and special hot buys also marked the grand opening events, which lasted the entire weekend.
