Marvin’s to close an Alabama store

2/20/2018

Marvin’s Building Materials and Home Centers plans to close one of its 28 stores.

The Alabama-based retailer and recent acquisition of the Central Network Retail Group (CNRG) said it took advantage of an expiring lease in Decatur, Alabama, to exit an under-performing location. It plans to close the Decatur store on July 2.

“We actually identified this store for closure prior to the acquisition of Marvin's last year,” said Boyden Moore, of CNRG. “It has historically (over 10 years) been among the lowest performing stores and was in a particularly bad facility location-wise and condition-of-building wise. As we had an opportunity to exit this lease, it was a good time to make this decision.”

CNRG acquired 28-location Marvin’s in August of 2015. It opened a new Marvin’s in Camilla, Georgia in December.

Another change to the Marvin’s business was the conversion of one store in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to a new brand: “Buck’s Bargain Center.” The brand is promoted with the slogan: “Hardware, Tools and Other Great Stuff.”

CNRG operates 15 brands and 83 stores in 10 states.
