Home Depot Canada joins ‘blue algae’ fight

2/20/2018

Home Depot Canada has announced a three-year partnership with Earth Day Quebec to promote environmental initiatives.

One of the first initiatives will include battling "blue algae" problems in some Canadian municipalities, which has caused ongoing water quality issues in Quebec.

Blue algae, which causes rashes and gastrointestinal issues, has led to water bans in several Quebec-based cities, where residents cannot use the water supply for drinking or bathing.

“These aquatic micro-organisms are threatening the health of two of Quebec's greatest resources,” said Elise Vaillancourt, regional marketing manager for Home Depot Quebec, in a statement.

Other partners with Earth Day Quebec include Cascades, Alcoa, Desjardins, Quebecor and IGA. Home Depot operates 166 stores in Canada, with 21 located in Quebec.
